HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 7 (acn) Indian Krishnan Sasikiran became champion of the Elite Group of the Capablanca in Memoriam Chess Tournament after drawing in the last round with Cuban Isan Ortiz.
Sasikirian, 36, signed peace in just 15 moves and totaled 6.5 points, ahead of American Samuel Shankland, who beat Ukranian Vassili Ivanchuk and they ranked second and third both with 5.5 units.
The veteran Ukrainian thus achieved his second loss of the contest and his sixth in 91 games in the history of these events.
The monarch of the tournament had balance of three wins and seven draws, while Shankland and Ivanchuk totaled three victories, five draws and two losses each.
Polish Kacper Piorun, who won over Peruvian Emilio Cordoba, finished fourth with five points.
The local Ortiz ranked fifth with four units, while Cordoba (3.5) appeared on bottom of the standings.
