Indian GM Sasikiran leads Capablanca chess tournament

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 6 (acn) GMs Krishanan Sasikiran and Vassily Ivanchuk won this Monday in the penultimate round of the elite group of the Capablanca in Memoriam Chess Tournament, which ends up today at Solymar Arenas Blancas Hotel in Varadero resort, in the Cuban province of Matanzas.

Indian Sasikiran earned his third win, second consecutive, now over Peruvian Emilio Cordoba, while Ukrainian Ivanchuk returned to winning path after losing on Sunday and beat the host Isan Ortiz for the second time in the contest.
After these results, and in only one round left, Sasikiran remains on top with six units, half more than Ivanchuk.
Today, in the final round, the Asian player will face Ortiz while Ivanchuk will rival American Samuel Shankland, who yesterday drew with Polish Kacper Piorun.
