HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 1 (acn) Cuban GMs Yuri Gonzalez and Lazaro Bruzon ranked second and third in the Zonal 2.3 Chess Tournament that took place in El Salvador.
Bruzon, first seed of the contest, beat Colombian John Jairo Cifuentes in the final round, but couldn´t reach the leaders as they both won, and finished third with 7 points, according to the specialized website www.chess-results.com .
Gonzalez defeated his compatriot Roberto Carlos Sanchez, who ranked eighth with 5.5 units, while Colombian Joshua Ruiz was the champion of the event after beating his countryman Camilo Ríos.
Rios and Gonzalez both totaled 7.5 units but the South American had better tiebreaker and they both got the two tickets the tournament granted to the World Cup to be held next September in Georgia.
