HAVANA, Cuba, May 29 (acn) Cubans Serguei Torres and Fernando D. Jorge ranked seventh in the men´s canoe (C-2) 500 meters in the ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in Szeged, Hungary, in a race won by Russians Ivan Shtyl and Viktor Melantev.
The winners scored time of 1: 39.605 minutes and were followed by Ukrainians Dmitro Ianchuk and Taras Mishchuk (1: 41.158) and Spaniards Adrian Sierio and Sergio Vellejo (1: 41.497), silver and bronze medalists, respectively.
Previously, Torres and Jorge, sixth in Rio 2016 Olympic Games, won the silver medal of the C-2 1000 meters event with time of 3: 27.958 minutes, only surpassed by Poles Vicent Slominski and Hoteusz Kaminski (3: 27,543).
Germans Sebastian Brendel-Jan Oeltze (3: 28.035) finished third, while their teammates Sebastian Sierio-Jan Vandrey (3: 28.843), leaders of their country and champions in Rio de Janeiro Olympics, had to settle for the fourth seat.
In the first phase of the World Cup, based in Montemor-o-Velho Lake, in Portugal, Torres and Jorge won the C-2 1000 meters event, and were also gold and silver medalists in the C-1 5000 meters, respectively.
The Cuban duo will also attend, from August 23-27, the World Championships in Racice, Czech Republic.
