HAVANA, Cuba, May 3 (acn) The Cuban duos of Karell Peña-Daisel Quesada and Leila Martínez-Lidianis Echeverría won tickets by the North, Central America and the Caribbean Confederation (NORCECA) to the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Vienna, Austria, from July 28 to August 6.
After the close of the NORCECA ranking to the World Cup, Cuba, with its men´s and women´s doubles, finished in the top four (in each sex), and got their berths, although the qualifying system is still open.
Both Cuban pairs won in their two participations in the regional circuit, with headquarters in La Paz, Mexican state of Baja California Sur, and Cayman Islands.
The qualifying tournament to Vienna will end up next June with the Moscow Open, Russia, so the Caribbean nation could earn another ticket.
Cuba´s leading men´s team, made up by Nivaldo Diaz and Sergio Gonzalez, fifth in the Rio 2016 Olympics, competes in the World Tour, and they already won the stop of Langkawi, Malaysia, and also had a good performance in Xiamen, China, where they reached the quarterfinals.
Diaz and Gonzalez will undergo a training base in Brazil this month which should help them to get good results in the stops of that South American country and in the Russian capital.
The 2017 WC of Vienna will be attended by 48 pairs of each sex.
