HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 25 (acn) Cuban Ineidis Casanova shone in the first game of the final of the Brazilian Women's Basketball League in the away victory of her team, Uninassau, over Corinthians.
Casanova, point guard of the Cuban national side, led her squad to a 73-62 (20-12, 16-20, 20-13 and 17-15) win, which was the first loss of her rival as local in the tournament.
She was chosen as women of the match after scoring 24 points, with 8 rebounds and five assists, according to the official website of the contest (LBF by its Portuguese acronym).
The Caribbean player also highlighted in the qualifying stage by achieving an average of 13.8 units in 21 games, and with 290 points was the club's second-best scorer.
Cuba has five other members of its women´s national side playing in foreign leagues: three in El Salvador and two in Argentina, national commissioner Dalia Henry told JIT sports publication, and added that six others were hired for the Dominican Republic tournament.
Meanwhile, in the men´s sector, pivot Javier Justiz has also excelled in the Estudiantes team in the Argentine National League and in his last outing he grabbed nine rebounds in the 78-66 win over Ferro, and now ranks sixth in that stat with average of 8.9 per game, with a total of 439 rebounds in 49 matches.
Young man Yoanki Mencia also plays in Argentina but for the Gimnasia y Esgrima U-23 team, club from the Comodoro Rivadavia city.
In addition, the pivot Orestes Torres and forward Lisvan Valdes play in El Salvador for the Santa Tecla, current champion of that tournament.
In the last game of that squad, the Santa Tecla reached its seventh consecutive win and Valdes led the offensive with 30 points.
