Cuban U17 soccer team opens qualifier with draw against Suriname

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 24 (acn) The Cuban U17 soccer team debuted with a 1-1 draw against Suriname in the CONCACAF world cup qualifying tournament taking place at Panama's Maracana Stadium.

According to the website of the contest, Cubans went ahead through a header by right-back Bruno Rendón in the 57th minute, but in the 83rd minute, Surinamese striker Archero Hoever scored the equalizer.
This result greatly complicates Cuba, as Suriname is the weakest team in group B and they had already defeated them 2-1 in the Caribbean qualifiers.
In the other match of this poole, Costa Rica beat 2-1 Canada, Cuba's next opponent tomorrow.
This tournament is attended by 12 teams and grants four tickets for the World Cup in India, next October.
