HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 30 (acn) Cuba achieved their second win when defeating Colombia in Group B of the Women's U18 Pan American Volleyball Cup with stage until next April 2 at Havana´s Sports City Coliseum.
After beating 3-0 ((25-13, 25-7, 25-13) Costa Rica on Tuesday, Cuba now won 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21) although the young squad still makes many errors.
Cuba´s scoring leaders were Ailama Cese (25 points), Elizabeth Vicet (20) and Ivi May Vila (12), while Emely Martínez (13), Manuela Ibarguen (11) and Valerin Carabali (10) highlighted for the losing side.
Yesterday´s other games showed wins of Mexico and the Dominican Republic over Uruguay 3-0 (25-12, 25-9 and 25-20) and Guatemala (25-10, 25-10 and 25-12), on that order, in group C, while Argentina defeated Chile 3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 26-28 and 25-18), in A.
So far, Cuba remains undefeated and leads Pool B, with two wins followed by Colombia (0-1) and Costa Rica (0-1), while Argentina (1-0) heads Group A escorted by Chile (1-1) and Puerto Rico (0-1).
Mexico (2-0) and Dominican (2-0) top Pool C ahead of Uruguay (0-2) and Guatemala (0-2).
Today´s program, last day of the qualifying groups and in which Cuba and Chile rest, includes the matches Argentina-Puerto Rico (A), Costa Rica-Colombia (B), and Uruguay- Guatemala and the DR-Mexico (C).
This tournament grants two World Cup tickets for the North, Central American and Caribbean (NORCECA) teams and one to those from South America, but only eight of the 10 participating sides will fight for them.
Argentina, as host, and the Dominican Republic, winner of the NORCECA tournament, are already qualified to the world championship, scheduled to take place in the Argentine cities of Santa Fe and Rosario, from August 18 to 27.
