HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 27 (acn) Cuba won the men's and mixed doubles events in the final day of the Giraldilla of Havana International Badminton Tournament, hosted by the Sports City Coliseum of this city.
Osleni Guerrero and Leodanis Martinez joined forces to beat Italians Lukas Osele and Kevin Strobl 2-1 (21-11, 22-24 and 21-8) in the men´s double.
Our intention always was reaching the gold medal, although we knew it would not be easy because we faced Italy´s top duo, but we knew how to impose ourselves in the key moments, said the Cuban players.
Also on Sunday, Martinez and Tahimara Oropeza won the gold medal in the mixed double event when defeating 2-0 (21-2 and 21-13) Guatemalans Jonathan Solis and Mariana Isabel Paiz.
In addition, Hungarian Laura Sarosi and Mexican Mariana Ugalde earn the crown of the women´s double after winning 2-0 (21-15 and 21-17) over Italians Silvia Garino and Lisa Iversen.
This tournament granted 2,500 points for the world ranking to the winners in each of the events.
