Cuban golfers train in Spain before World Championship

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 23 (acn) The team that will star in the debut of Cuban golf at an event away from home traveled on Wednesday to Spain to hold a week of training and warm-up before the World Championship.

This contest will be played from April 30 to April 2 in the Italian town of Solbiate Olona and will be attended by a quintet of Cuban players captained by former cyclist Annia Yoannis Blanco.
The other members of the squad are Alexei Castellanos, current national champion, Daniel Batista, Guillermo Hernandez and the experienced Idol Mendez, who will participate in the senior category.
The pitch and putt modality coordinating group reported that the presence in this event is part of the road to the Barranquilla 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games, initial stop of the Olympic cycle to conclude in Tokyo 2020.
This path started through a training camp in Varadero, where it is the only 18-hole course in the country, and aims to become known worldwide and acquire the experience that generates such event.
According to the official website, the inscription welcomed 121 contestants from more than 10 countries and the actions will take place at Le Robinie-Solbiate Olona club.
