HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 20 (acn) Cuban triple jumper Pedro Pablo Pichardo, twice silver medalist in World Championships, trains normally in this city and is expected to return to the competitions next May.
Daniel Osorio, coach of the outstanding athlete, told ACN that they plan to start competing after May 20, so Pichardo must attend the Barrientos Memorial event, in Havana.
Toronto 2015 Pan American monarch and world youth champion in Barcelona 2012, Pichardo was absent from Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics due to a microfracture in his right ankle.
According to Osorio, they intend to attend four or five competitions before the World Athletics Championships that will host London, England, from August 4 to 13.
Considering that he has not competed for more than a year we want to take him slowly, and we are sure he will return to his usual level because he is a very competitive athlete that grows in each tournament, Osorio noted.
This is the first year of the quadrennium and we want to amend the debt that remained from Rio Olympics, where he could not participate because of the injury, concluded the coach.
