HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 20 (acn) Cuban Arlenis Sierra, Guadalajara 2011 Pan-American champion and member of the Italian-Kazakh club Astana, ranked second in the third round of the UCI Women´s World Tour, held in Cittiglio, province of Varese, Italy.
This outstanding athlete reached the finish line with time of 3 hours, 25 minutes and 26 seconds, same time of American Coryn Rivera (Team Sunweb) and Danish Cecile Uttrup Ludwig (Cervélo-Bigla), who won the gold and bronze medals in that order.
The race of 131.3 kilometers was attended by 150 cyclists from 25 teams from several countries, and only 89 of them completed the tough stage.
Sierra, best Cuban cyclist nowadays, confirmed that she is the leading figure of her squad, with which she has won one gold and two silver medals in four races in the UCI Women´s World Tour so far this season.
2016 was a very good year for Sierra, as she won the Tour to Costa Rica, ranked third in the points race event of the UCI World Track Cycling Championships, was silver medalist in the Pan-American Championship of Venezuela and finished third in the Tour of San Luis, in Argentina.
Marlies Mejías is the other Cuban hired in a professional cycling club, the Weber Shimano Ladies Power, and this year she was the winner of the individual general classification of Uruguay's first international women's cycling tour.
