Cuba´s Domadores win WSB match over Venezuelan Caciques
HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 18 (ACN) In a harder than expected match the Cuban boxing squad Domadores beat 3-2 the Venezuelan Caciques in the fourth round of the 7th World Boxing Series.
At the José María Vargas Dome, in the Venezuelan state of Vargas, lightweight Armando Martínez Jr won the first bout against Luis Cabrera on unanimous decision, after taking advantage of the misses of his rival to hit to the body in counterattacks.
The second Cuban to fight was Olympic champion Roniel Iglesias in the welterweight division. A split decision over Gabriel Mestre didn't show the reality on the ring, since the Cuba had control of the actions through all the rounds, with right straights and left hooks.
The surprise of the night came when three time world champion and Olympic gold in Rio Julio Cesar la Cruz lost on a controversial split decision to Albert Ramirez. The Cuban was not at his best, but hit better and even had the referee counting to eight on his rival in the third round.
Superheavyweight Jose Angel Larduet gave Cuba the victory after knocking out Henrique Dos Santos barely two minutes into the fight.
The last Cuban to enter the ring, Yosbany Veitia (52 kilogram division) lost 0-3 to the Rio Olympics bronze medalist Yoel Finol in a bout where the Cuban got tired and couldn't contain the constant attacks of his rival.
