HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 14 (acn) Nine countries confirmed their attendance to the 18th Giraldilla Badminton Tournament, scheduled from March 23 to 26 at the Havana´s Sports City Coliseum.
According to the Cuban Badminton Federation, the countries enrolled in this contest are Guatemala, Italy, the Dominican Republic, United States, Mexico, Hungary, Trinidad and Tobago, Wales and Panama.
Cuba registered 21 athletes thanks to its status as headquarters, with the leadership of Osleni Guerrero, silver and bronze medalist at the Guadalajara 2011 and Toronto 2015 Pan American Games respectively.
Along with Guerrero, Leodannis Martinez, Ernesto Reyes, Angel Herrera and Lázaro Madera, as well as Taimara Oropeza and Adriana Artiz also have options to fight for medals.
Guerrero, defending champion of this competition, is currently in a training base in Italy until March 20.
The 18th Giraldilla Badminton Tournament will also hold an event for handicapped athletes and the local squad includes Rafael Colambat and Manuel del Rosario Vargas, the latter was silver medalist in the Parapan American Championship held in Colombia in 2016.
