HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 23 (acn) The squad of Pinar del Rio beat 6-3 its counterpart from the American city of Pittsburgh, in the friendly boxing match hosted by the November 19th multipurpose room of that Cuban western city.
The match brought together a group of young boxers from different educational institutions in that US city and emerging figures from Pinar del Rio Cuban province.
This meeting with the Cuban boxers, owners of a unique tradition in this sport that has led them to be in the world elite, has been very profitable, said Michel Diven, a member of the Hibernian Celtic Athletic sports organization, co-organizer of the match.
In addition, as happened last year, we expect to give continuity to this friendly match on Pittsburgh soil and hope to spread it to other cities in Pennsylvania, he said.
In the competitive order, Cuba went ahead 2-0 through wins of Yan Carlos Iglesias (64 kilos) and Luis Miguel Rivera, although the visitors managed to level the match 3-3 thanks to the victories of Sylvio Cercone (60), Cameron Donnelly (57) and Vincent Austin (54), Cuba´s third win went to Reinier Diaz (64).
But then, three Cuban wins in a row decided the match in favor of the local squad. The winners were Jose Manuel Izaguirre (69), Jorge Enrique González (69) and Yassiel Despaigne (75), the latter has already trained on several occasions with the Cuban national team.
