Superb performance by Cuban fencer: silver in World Cup

Havana, Cuba, Feb 20 (acn) Cuban Yunior Reytor won the silver medal this weekend in the men´s epee event of the Peter Bakonyi World Fencing Cup, based in Vancouver, Canada.

"We know he has a lot of potential and is ready for that kind of action, we are all proud of him," Alhjadis Bandera, national fencing commissioner, told JIT sports publication

Swiss Max Heinzer, 5th of the world ranking, beat Reytor 14-13 in a hard-fought final bout.
Reytor had previously defeated Finland´s Niko Vuorinen, Japanese Masaru Yamada and Italian Matteo Tagliariol, the latter was London 2008 Olympic champion.

Cuba also participated with Luis Enrique Paterson and Ringo Quintero, who were both beaten in the round of 64.

In the senior team men´s epee event, Cuba ranked 21st in a contest that was attended by more than a hundred fencers from 20 nations.
