Defending champion wins first game of semifinals

CIEGO DE AVILA, Cuba, Jan 5 (acn) Ciego de Avila got the first win in the opening game of the semifinals play-offs of the 56th Cuban National Baseball Series by defeating Villa Clara 10-4.

The winner was right-hander Vladimir Garcia who allowed three runs in six innings, including a solo homer by SS Michael Gonzalez, with six strikeouts, while Freddy Asiel Álvarez took the loss after surrendering 5 runs, with nine hits and two walks, in five innings.
