HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 19 (acn) Villa Clara beat twice Ciego de Ávila and now appears alone in the third seat of the 56th Cuban National Baseball Series with 47 wins and 32 losses.
The Oranges won the last match 3-1 mainly thanks to the pitching performance by Alain Sánchez who earned the win after allowing seven hits in seven innings while Dachel Duquesne, who surrendered three earned runs and seven hits in four and one-third innings, took the loss.
In another match, Camagüey defeated Granma for the third consecutive time, this time with score of 7-3, at Candido González stadium.
Granma´s first baseman Guillermo Aviles hit a solo homer.
Finally, in Victoria de Giron Park, Matanzas won 7-3 over Holguin in the first game of the day but lost 3-5 the second match.
The win in the first game went to Dairon Durán and Dayron Riera earned the loss, while lefty Liván Moinelo got Holguin´s win with Ramon Licor as loser.
Ciego de Avila´s catcher Osvaldo Vázquez drove in his 65 th run and shares the top of that stat with Matanzas´ DH Yordanis Samón.
Third baseman Jefferson Delgado (Matanzas) remains a batting leader with average of .413, followed by Camagüey´s Alexander Ayala and Samon with .385 each.
Meanwhile, Granma´s Lázaro Blanco has the best ERA (1.80) and is escorted by Villa Clara´s Alain Sánchez (1.99).
