Cubans Mejias and Freire finish First and Second in the Titan Tropic Mountain Bike Race

PINAR DEL RIO, Cuba, Dec 9 (acn) Cubans Marlies Mejías and Yoandy Freire finished first and second, in that order, in the 2nd Titan Tropic mountain biking race, which concluded on the sands of Jutías Key, north of this province.

Mejías, who won the first three stages of the contest, escorted in this last stretch her compatriot Olga Echenique, champion in 2015, who was now bronze medalist.
I am happy because the victory remained at home, which is the most important thing, said Echenique, who by her triumph then attended the Titan Desert, so it is expected the organizers of the RPM Barcelona to send a similar invitation to Mejias, queen now in her debut in this modality after shining in track and road cycling.
Spanish Nuria Picas appeared second in the women´s event.
In the men´s event, the also locals Yoandy Freire and Alvaro Soca ranked one and two while Colombian Diego Tamayo finished third in this final stage.
The South American was the leader of the general classification, repeating thus his performance of last year.
In addition to Freire, second, and Soca, sixth, the other Cubans best positioned were Yasmani Balmaceda (9), Jairo Lopez (12) and Jose Mojica (13).
This contest was attended by 134 men and 15 women from several countries such as Spain, USA, France, Cuba, etc.
