The Favorites win the Double Header in Cuban Baseball Championships

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 9 (acn) Villa Clara now ranks third in the standings in the 56th Cuban National Baseball Series, sending thus Granma, which lost twice, to fourth seat, after beating also twice Holguin in Augusto Cesar Sandino Stadium.

The Oranges won 10-3 and 1-0 with wins to Freddy Asiel Alvarez and Yaifredo Dominguez and, in the first match, there were offensive highlight for third baseman Yeniet Perez (4 RBIs) and first baseman Alex Malleta, who hit a homer and drove in two runs.
Granma, meanwhile, lost 1-4 and 6-12 with Matanzas as visitors at Victoria de Giron Park.and now appears fourth.
In the first game, third baseman Jefferson Delgado hit 3 for 4, thus raising his BA to .428, leader of the tournament, while his team is only 11 wins left to match the record of 66 set by Industriales in 2003 with Rey Vicente Anglada as manager.
Finally, the current monarh of Ciego de Avila also won twice (13-4 and 5-1) over Camaguey.
Edilse Silva, 2 for 4, and Raidel Echemendía, 2 for 2, both with two RBIs and a homer were the offensive highlights of the winners in the first match.
Now Matanzas has balance of 55 wins and 15 losses, followed by Ciego de Ávila (47-22), Villa Clara (41-28), Granma (40-29), Holguin (33-37) and Camagüey (32-37).
