Cuba announces pre-team to World Baseball Classic

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 7 (acn) Cuba´s pre-selection to the 4th World Baseball Classic (WBC) was published in a message released by the National Federation of this sport.

Led by slugger Alfredo Despaigne, the 50-player list includes eight veterans of previous editions of these contests and five Olympics, according to JIT sports magazine.

JIT notes that this is a provisional list and updates the one shown in a meeting with the press organized on January 25, when the strategists insisted on the parameters used to make the choosing, including discipline, devotion on and off the field, comprehensive performance in the 56th edition of the National Series, physical and psychological states, offensive and defensive effectiveness, versatility and historical performance.

The publication also said the list can vary until February 6th, so there can be in and outs.

The final roster will be made official in the final days of January and will consist of 28 players (at least 13 pitchers and two catchers).
