HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 7 (acn) With the contribution of Cubans Lisván Valdés and Orestes Torres, the team of Santa Tecla qualified to the final of El Salvador Basketball Major League.
The fight for the crown begins today in search of a new champion, with the unbeaten squad of the Cubans as rival of the Sonzacate Halcones, in a three-game play-off, according to the website www.radiohc.cu.
The point guard Valdés has scored 91 points in the postseason, with 39 rebounds and 14 assists; while power-forward Torres totals 62 points with 26 rebounds.
Known as the Green Fury, this side remains undefeated in the current season, in which it achieved 30 wins in the qualifying round.
That great performance was extended with wins over the Denver FAS (81-76 and 104-98) in quarterfinals; and in semifinals they won twice again, this time against the Isidro Metapan Sports Association, with scores of 83-59 and 74-71.
In that semifinal phase, Valdés scored 32 points, 5 assists and 19 rebounds, and versus Denver he added 59 units, with 20 rebounds and 9 assists.
Torres, meanwhile, added 30 points and 11 rebounds in the series against Isidro Metapan; and against his previous club, the Denver FAS, totaled 32 points and 15 rebounds.
