HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 23 (acn) Adding two wins yesterday allowed Cuba to have six competitors today fighting for bronze medals in the Youth World Boxing Championship staged at the Russian city of St. Petersburg.
The winners were light welterweight Damian Lescay and welterweight Isamy Mesa, who both beat 4-1 Romanian Nicolae Schiopu and Slovakian Andrej Csemez, respectively.
However, the day was adverse for featherweight Alexei Rodriguez, silver medalist in the universal tournament for cadets, as he lost 5-0 to Turkish Ali Ihsan Alagas.
Thus, Cuba finished the preliminary stage with balance of 14 wins and 3 losses and maintains its options of winning three crowns in an event attended by 531 athletes from 61 countries.
