HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 22 (ACN) José Ramón Fernández, president of the Cuban Olympic Committee, received in this city the Golden Button granted by the Madrid Marathon (MAPOMA by its Spanish acronym) to prominent personalities from the world of sport.
The award ceremony took place at the Sports City Coliseum, where Pedro Rumbao, head of MAPOMA, said: "I have the honor and great pleasure to distinguish our beloved Commander José Ramón Fernández with the highest distinction granted by our association ".
This button represents a series of values such as effort, sacrifice and improvement, he added in presence of Antonio Becali, president of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation, and Carlos Gattorno, director of the Marabana-Maracuba project.
According to JIT sports publication, Fernandez pointed out that he received the distinction on behalf of all Cuban sports workers.
MAPOMA, twinned with Marabana-Maracuba, granted in the 1990s the Maratoniano de Honor distinction to the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro and the King of Spain Juan Carlos, among other personalities, said JIT.
