HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 4 (acn) Several officials of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA by its French acronym) will arrive next Sunday in this city, with the objective of completing a program of exchanges with Cuban sports authorities.
The group will be headed by José Luis Sáez, member of the Central Bureau of that entity, and will also include Alberto García, Executive Director for the Americas, and his assistant Víctor Mansure, the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER by its Spanish acronym) told the press.
The approved agenda foresees their attendance on Sunday to the General Assembly of the Cuban Basketball Federation, in order to exchange on the links of FIBA with the Caribbean nation and the new system of competitions for basketball.
One day later, they will be received by executives of INDER and the Cuban Olympic Committee, and on Tuesday they will meet with journalists at a conference convened for 9:00 am at the auditorium of the Sports City.
As for the competitive action of that sport in Cuba, the second phase of the Men´s National Promotion Tournament will begin on November 8th, contest which includes 16 teams in search of eight tickets to the Higher Basketball League (LSB by its Spanish acronym).
Regarding women, they already finished the qualifying stage that defined the six squads that will be involved in the LSB and the berths corresponded to Capitalinas, Pinar del Rio, Sancti Spiritus, Camaguey, Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo.
