Cuban GMs finish 2-3 in Mexican chess tournament

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 2 (acn) Cubans Lazaro Bruzon and Yuniesky Quesada escorted Dutch Sergey Tiviakov on top of the Jugando en Concreto chess tournament played in Villahermosa, Mexico.

Tiviakov won with seven points in nine rounds and was followed by Bruzon, who despite taking the lead for nearly the entire contest, reached four consecutive draws and had to settle for the second seat with 6.5 units.
According to www.chess-results.com, Bruzon signed peace on Tuesday with Quesada, in the morning, and with his compatriot Leonel Figueredo, at night.
Meanwhile, Quesada finished third also with 6.5 points but with worst tiebreaker than Bruzon in an event attended by 54 contestants.
The champion Tiviakov also drew his last game against Peruvian Emilio Córdova, but he had beat in the morning American Julio Becerra and this was decisive to gain the crown.
Cordova ranked fourth, also with 6.5 points, and was followed by Becerra (5), who headed a sextet of players that included Cubans Orlen Ruiz (6), Diasmany Otero (7), Aramis Alvarez (8) and Ermes Espinosa (10), all with 6 units.
