Cuban Dominguez to attend Latin American Grand Masters Chess TournamentHAVANA, Cuba, Oct 26 (acn) Invited to the Elite event of the Latin American GMs tournament, Cuban Leinier Dominguez will attend the Educational Chess festival, convened from today at the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM by its Spanish acronym) and the Kasparov Foundation.

Amid the extensive program announced by the authorities of the meeting scheduled for the Aztec capital, the number 23rd in the world ranking will attend a quadrangular tourney along with Peruvian Julio Granda, Venezuelan Eduardo Iturrizaga and the local Gilberto Hernandez.
This competition will be based on semi-rapid and Blitz games, and will provide a competitive nuance to the celebration, which special guest will be the former world champion Russian Garry Kasparov.
On Friday, the emblematic "Ogre of Baku" will answer questions of the analyst Leontxo Garcia and player Miguel Illescas, both Spaniards, and a day later will give a lecture at the Theatre of the higher education center.
Garcia and Illescas will also give lectures to attract audiences of all ages and promote chess as a development alternative.
Leinier will use this not-very-demanding contest as training for the European Chess Club Cup.
This event will be held from November 6 to 12 in Novi Sad, Serbia, and the Caribbean player will defend the second board of the St. Petersburg Bronze Horse team, and will have as teammates Russians Peter Svilder, Nikita Vitugov, Maxin Matlakov, Ildar Kahirullin and Vladimir Fedoseyev, Israeli Maxin Rodshestein and Chinese Xiangzhi Bu.
It will be a seven-round-Swiss-system tournament which so far will be attended by 61 squads.
