HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 19 (acn) With a similar preparation to that performed in the freestyle, Cuban Reineris Salas is training to compete in the first Pahlavani Wrestling World Championship to be held from November 10 to 13 in Minsk, Belarus.
Salas, double silver medalist at world tournaments, will fight in the 100 kilograms division and will be the only Cuban wrestler attending this contest, a new experience where he will be under the supervision of former universal monarch and Olympic bronze medalist, Wilber Sánchez.
It was an invitation I received, it was not on my schedule, but I'm training with the desire to do it well, the winner of the scepter in Toronto 2015 Pan American Games told ACN.
Now I'm studying the rules of this modality, which is a bit different from traditional wrestling, and I'm also watching some videos that friends of mine have downloaded from the internet.
He added that this World Championship is inserted in his preparation overlooking the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan, scheduled from November 22 to 25.
Pahlavani wrestling dates back to ancient Persia and is said it was practiced by mythological heroes in great battles.
Considered of high spiritual value, it combines martial arts and freestyle techniques, calisthenics, strength training and epic music.
