HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 12 (acn) Cuban GM Lazaro Bruzon totaled 6.5 points, five wins, three draws and one loss, and finished eighth in the 3rd Millionaire Chess Tournament held in Atlantic City, United States.
Bruzon signed peace with Azeri Rauf Mamedov in the ninth and final round of the competition.
Polish Dariusz Swiercz, who defeated Bruzon, won the tournament, followed by Chinese Jianchao Zhou, English Gawain Jones and Peruvian Emilio Cordova.
Bruzon was preceded by Mamedov himself, young U.S. player Jeffery Xiong and the also local Varuzhan Hakobyan, all with better tiebreakers.
The tournament was good for the now third player in Cuban ranking, since he added 11 points to his current ELO (2 615) and left a message of recovery after his poor performance in previous months.
