HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 12 (acn) The Cuban men's basketball team is in China with the purpose of playing several games until October 30, which will serve them as training.
The vice-president of the Cuban Basketball Federation, Dalia Henry, told the press that the 12 players making up the team are mostly young athletes that have stood out in the National Promotion Tournament.
The Cuban official added that on this occasion the island will have possibility to play in about 10 games against clubs of Venezuela, the United States, Canada and China, which will be undoubtedly beneficial for the development of these new exponents of Cuba's basketball.
Henry also said that in China this team will begin a new stage of approximately 30 percent renewal, a generation change she believes is positive to rejuvenate the island's main national squad.
In addition, she explained that the four players that are currently hired in foreign leagues will not be present - Orestes Torres and Livan Valdes, in El Salvador; Javier Justiz, in Argentina; and Joan Luis Haiti, in Panama.
