HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 10 (acn) The Cuban U18 team lost 1-6 to the US the gold medal at the 2016 Pan American baseball championships this Sunday in Monterrey, Mexico.
The Cuban team finished the tournament with a 6-2 balance of wins and losses, and with this victory the Americans won their sixth consecutive gold medal in these events.
US starter Hans Crouse allowed one hit over seven innings and had a no-hitter for 4 2/3 innings. He struck out 11 and walked three for the win. Meanwhile closer Jordan Butler did not allow a hit over two innings to secure the victory.
The US team took the lead in the second inning when they scored three time on a two-run double by Hagen Danner and an RBI double by Nick Pratto.
Jarred Kelenic hit a two-run home run in the seventh to push the lead to 5-0 and Royce Lewis had an RBI double to cap the scoring.
Cuba won the silver medal and host Mexico won the bronze. Team USA, Cuba, Mexico and Nicaragua advance to the WBSC U18 Baseball World Cup next year in Thunder Bay, Canada.
