US beat Cuba 2-0 in soccer friendly in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 8 (acn) The United States national soccer team beat its Cuban counterpart 2-0 in a historical friendly match played at the Havana´s Pedro Marrero Stadium.

The Americans, coached by Jürgen Klinsmann, had in its winger Julian Green, who plays for the mighty German club Bayern Munich, their best player, with a goal at the 73rd minute with assistance of Chris Wondolowski.
Previously, Wondolowski opened the score after Cuban goalkeeper Sandy Sanchez saved a shot by Green, but left the ball for the American to score at the 61.
Despite losing this game, the Cuban squad left a good impression on their fans, thanks to their spirit, and had several chances to score themselves, but luck and lack of precision aborted their possibilities to at least save the honor in their turf.
The best Cuban player, according to the specialists was youngster Roberney Caballero, who ran a great deal, recovered several balls and overall had a great performance.
It was a special game for us, in which we could try many players; Cubans showed they have talent and qualities to improve in this sport, said the US DT Klinsmann after the game.
The Cuban coach Raúl Mederos said that though his players had a good first half, in the second they didn't have any strength left, and that was the reason for them to lose.
