Cuba loses to the DR in U23 Women´s Pan American Volleyball Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 22 (acn) Cuba lost to the Dominican Republic in the third day of the 3rd U23 Women´s Pan American Volleyball Cup which takes place at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum, in Lima, Peru.

According to the website of the tournament, Cubans lost 3-0 (21-25, 18-25 and 19-25) after one hour and 14 minutes, in which Dominicans made excellent use of the 30 unforced errors of their rivals, and they only made 13.
The leading scorer of the match was Dominican Elizabeth Martinez with 16 points, supported by Natalia Martinez (10), while Dalila Palma (10) and Dairis Perez (10) highlighted for the losing side.
The Dominican Republic was also better at blocking (12-2), while Cuba led the attack (37-30) and service (6-3).
In previous days, Cubans lost 1-3 (21-25, 25-18, 18-25 and 22-25) and won 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-18) over Costa Rica.
In yesterday´s other matches, Costa Rica defeated 3-1 (25-13, 25-16, 20-25, 25-20) Trinidad and Tobago while Peru sensationally beat 3-2 (17-25, 26-24, 23-25, 27-25, 17-15) Argentina.
The semifinals will be on September 24th and the final will take place a day later.
The teams finishing first and second will earn the two tickets awarded by NORCECA to the 2017 World Cup, while the third seat will win another berth granted by the South American Volleyball Confederation.
