Cuban women's national basketball pre-selection starts training

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 20 (acn) Made up by 20 players, the Cuban women's national basketball pre-selection began their training toward the Centrobasquet tournament, to be held next year in Puerto Rico.

Coached by Alberto Zabala, the Cuban team starts this new preparation period after completion of the National Promotion Tournament, where six squads qualified to the Higher League which will start on January 2017.
Dalia Henry, vice president of the Cuban Basketball Federation, told ACN that the players will seek for an optimal level with workouts aimed at strengthening the technical level of a group of pretty young athletes.
Right now, she said, this group of players has a 25 percent of renewal in its ranks, with the retirement of experienced athletes such as Oyanaisis Gelis, Suchitel Avila, Leydis Oquendo and Clenia Noblet.
Finally, she noted that Ineidis Casanova will continue playing at a professional club in Brazil; while Yamara Amargo is going to become a mother.
