Matanzas to recover after losing winning streak

Matanzas to recover after losing winning streakHAVANA, Cuba, Sep 16 (acn) After seeing broken its chain of 18 consecutive wins at the close of the last subseries against Industriales, Matanzas will try to return today to winning ways in the Cuban baseball championship when facing Santiago de Cuba.

Supported by an overwhelming offensive and the effective work of their pitching staff, the Matanzas Crocodiles lead the national baseball classic with excellent balance of 27 wins and just three losses, virtually qualified to the second round of the competition.
The players coached by Victor Mesa will have an excellent opportunity to increase their winning harvest when visiting the Santiago de Cuba Wasps which appear 13th with poor balance of 11-18 and have just won three of their 15 matches as home club.
The deputy leader Holguin (19-8) will try to consolidate its position, as well as extending their streak of six consecutive wins when visiting Guantanamo (16-14), also competing seriously for one of the tickets to the next round.
Meanwhile, the current monarchs of Ciego de Avila (18-12), who rank third, will receive Pinar del Río (10-14), while Villa Clara (14-11) will try to take advantage when playing at home against Sancti Spiritus (8-21), last in the standings.
The rest of the subseries of the Cuban National Baseball Series for Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be: Granma (15-14)-Artemisa (11-19), Cienfuegos (13-17)-Industriales (14-15), Camagüey (16-13)-Isla de la Juventud (13-14) and Las Tunas (14-15)-Mayabeque (8-19), always at home of those mentioned first.
