HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 16 (acn) In its last match of the group stage, Cuba will face today the powerful Russian team in the World Futsal Cup taking place in Medellin, Colombia.
Cubans already have no possibilities of accessing the second round as they lost in their two previous outings.
In their debut, they were beaten 1-7 by Egypt, while in the second match they lost 5-8 to Thailand, which they were defeating 4-2 after the first half, but could not maintain the pace in the second half.
Meanwhile, Russians, current European monarchs, beat 6-4 in their debut the Thais and then defeated 6-1 the African side.
The most outstanding Russian player is the naturalized Brazilian pivot Eder Lima, author of five goals in two games. Their best technical and tactical arsenal augurs a success without major problems when facing the Cuban squad.
For Cuba, the most outstanding player has been the winger-pivot Sandy Dominguez, who scored two goals against the Thais.
Cuba attended four consecutive World Futsal Cups: Spain 1996, Guatemala 2000, Chinese Taipei 2004 and Brazil 2008, but did not qualify for Thailand 2012.
