Cuba to semi-finals in men's U23 Pan American Volleyball Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 8 (acn) Cuba advanced to the semifinals of the men's U23 Pan American Volleyball Cup when defeating the Dominican Republic, at the final preliminary round of the tournament based in Guanajuato, Mexico.

Cubans finished unbeaten in Group B when beating Dominicans 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-19), after 57 minutes, according to the website of the contest.
The leading scorer of the match was Cuban Miguel Lopez, who scored 12 points, and was supported by his teammates Javier Concepcion and Osniel Rendon, both with 11, while Dominican Luis Rodriguez (10) excelled for the losing side.
The statistics of the match showed superiority of Cuba in attack (40-21), blocking (13-2) and service (2-1) although Dominicans were better in unforced errors (27-20).
On the previous day, Cuba defeated 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-15) Trinidad and Tobago that ended last in the group, winless with two losses, also surpassed by the Dominican Republic (1-1).
Colombia (2-0) led Poole A, ahead of Mexico (1-1) and Guatemala (0-2), while Argentina (2-0) commanded group C, escorted by Chile (1-1) and St. Lucia (0-2).
The other semifinalists are Argentines, who await like Cubans for the winners of today´s quarterfinals, with the matches Colombia-Dominican Republic and Chile-Mexico.
