Cuban discus thrower Caballero wins bronze in Zurich

Cuban discus thrower Caballero wins bronze in ZurichHAVANA, Cuba, Sep 2 (acn) With shot of 62.80 meters, Cuban discus thrower Denia Caballero won the bronze medal in the penultimate stop of the Athletics Diamond League, based in the Swiss city of Zurich.

Caballero, last year world champion and bronze medalist at Rio 2016 Olympics, reached the awards podium again with a third seat which granted eight points to her overall amount.
Croatian Sandra Perkovic, double Olympic champion, showed her excellent shape and won the title again, this time with 68.44 meters; while French Mélina Robert-Michon (63.91) took the silver medal.
Perkovic led with 80 points this contest and she also won the diamond awarded as prize to the winners in each event.
Robert-Michon, with 28 units, and Caballero (24) finished second and third in that order, quite far from the Croatian athlete, as reflected in the official website of the tournament.
In the case of Caballero, she won four bronze medals in the overall competition; the last one was last August 27 at the meeting in Paris, France, with 61.98 meters.
The 7th edition of the Diamond League has 14 stops and a new scoring system was adopted this year to make it even more interesting and competitive.
For example, the new system now rewards those finishing among the top six in each contest, so the winners would earn 10 points, 6 units to the runner-ups, while the bronze medalists win four points.
In addition, those finishing fourth, fifth and sixth receive three, two and one unit, respectively.
As an exception, in the stops of Zurich, Switzerland, and Brussels, Belgium -next September 9th- the score will be doubled.
