Cuban baseball: Matanzas wins nine games in a row to lead

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 2 (acn) Matanzas extended to nine its winning streak by beating 10-4 Camagüey in the continuation of the Cuban baseball championship in its 56th edition.

The Matanzas Crocodiles deployed an overwhelming attack of 15 hits, highlighting the outfielder Eduardo Blanco, 3 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs, seconded by second baseman Anibal Medina and first baseman Yasiel Santoya, authors of homers in the game.
Yoanni Yera earned his fourth win of the season by allowing eight hits and two earned runs, with seven strikeouts in six innings, while Jose Ramon Rodriguez got his second loss.
The current monarch, Ciego de Avila, beat Guantanamo 4-3, with offensive highlight of Yoelvis Fiss, author of a homer and two RBIs, while Dachel Duquesne claimed the win.
Las Tunas returned to winning ways with an 8-4 victory over Industriales in match marked by the batting of veteran Danel Castro, 3 for 5 with a double and three RBIs, seconded by Yudier Rondon who hit a homer and drove in two runs.
Granma knocked out Mayabeque 14-2 with overwhelming offensive of 16 hits, including two homers and seven RBIs by DH Lazaro Cedeno, and home runs per capita by Carlos Benitez and Darien Garcia.
In other matches of the day, Cienfuegos defeated 12-7 Sancti Spiritus and Artemisa closely won 3-2 over Santiago de Cuba, while the games Holguin- Isla de la Juventud and Pinar del Río-Villa Clara were suspended for the second consecutive day because of rain.
