Cuban Perez finished 46 in Olympic marathon

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Aug 22 (acn) Cuban Richer Pérez ranked 46th in the men´s marathon event of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games that concluded yesterday in this Brazilian city.

Perez, Toronto 2015 Pan American champion, covered the grueling race of 42 kilometers and 195 meters in two hours, 18 minutes and five seconds in an event completed by 140 competitors.
Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge (2:08:44) won the gold medal, followed by Ethiopian Feyisa Lilesa (2:09:54) and American Galen Rupp (2:10:05), silver and bronze medalists, in that order.
Cuba only won a bronze medal in athletics of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro through Denia Caballero in the women´s discus throw.
Yarisley Silva, London 2012 Olympic silver medalist in women´s pole vault, one of the great hopes of medal for the Caribbean nation, could only finish seventh in the final of that event.
Thus, Silva, world outdoors and indoors champion, could not achieve the only major title missing from her successful career.
