HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 20 (acn) Cuban boxer Robeisy Ramirez became two-time Olympic champion after beating US Shakur Stevenson in the 56 kilogram division on a split decision.
Ramirez won in London 2012 at only 18 years of age, and now repeated the feat in a fight that was harder than expected, since the American had not won any major events before this Games.
After showing a lot of spirit and great moves in the first round to win it, the Cuban boxer lost the initiative and the three judges saw the fight even, granting that round to Stevenson.
With an even score Ramirez went for the killing in the third and threw the best and most effective punches, though the American was a worthy rival all the way, till the point that the Greek judge voted him as the winner.
To reach the final, the Cuban had to beat world runner-up Murodjon Akhmadaliev from Uzbekistan
Now Cuba has 4 gold medals in Rio and ranks 20th among all nations participatin
