Cuban Boat Finishes Ninth in Rio 2016 Canoeing Tournament

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Aug 18 (acn) Cuban kayakers finished ninth after winning the B finals of the K-2 1000 meters in the canoeing tournament of the 31st Olympic Games, which end next Sunday in this Brazilian city.

The crew made up by Jorge Garcia and Reinier Torres recorded 3: 18,768 minutes to relegate Frenchmen Arnaud Hybois and Etienne Hubert (3: 19.415) and Kazakhs Yevgeniy Alexeyev and Alexey Dergunov (3: 20,827) to second and third positions in the so-called consolation race.
Germans Max Rendschmidt and Marcus Goss were the winners of this event when winning the A finals in 3: 10,781 minutes, ahead of Serbs Marko Tomicevic and Milenko Zoric (3: 10.969) and Australians Ken Wallace and Lachlan Tame ( 3: 12.593), silver and bronze medalists, respectively.
Cuba will also compete in the Rio 2016 canoeing contest by way of Fidel Vargas, who will try on Friday to qualify to the semifinals of the men's K-1 200 meters event.
