Cuban La Cruz to Compete on Thursday for a Gold Medal in Olympic Boxing

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Aug 18 (acn) Cuban Julio Cesar La Cruz (81 kg) will try to obtain today a gold medal in the boxing tournament of the Olympic Games hosted by this Brazilian city.

At Riocentro Arena, three-time world champion La Cruz will face Kazakh Adilbek Niyasymbetov, London 2012 Olympic silver medalist.
Also today, Robeisy Ramirez (56), London 2012 Olympic monarch, will try to advance to the finals when facing Uzbek Murodjon Akhmadaliev, universal runner-up in Doha 2015; while the also Cuban Arlen Lopez (75), last year world champion, will have the same goal against Azeri Kamran Shakhsuvarly.
In athletics, Cuba will be represented by Leonel Suárez, who has won two bronze Olympic medals, and by Yordani Garcia, who will both cover the second day of decathlon, which includes the 110 meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin and 1 500m.
Finally, in canoeing, the Cuban duo made up by Jorge Antonio Garcia and Reinier Torres (K2 1000 meters) will be involved in the B finals to define positions 9 to 12.
So far, the Cuban delegation totals two gold medals, two silver medals and four bronze medals at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics The crowns were won by Greco-Roman wrestlers Ismael Borrero (59 kg) and Mijain Lopez (130).
