RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Aug 12 (acn) Cuban Lazaro Alvarez (60 kg) secured the bronze medal in the boxing tournament of Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Alvarez, three-time world champion and London 2012 bronze medalist, beat 3-0 the young American boxer Carlos Balderas at Rio Centro Complex, in this Brazilian city.
The also twice Pan American monarch will now have a tough opponent in semifinals in Brazilian Robson Conceiçao, who defeated Uzbek Hurshid Tujibaev.
This was Cuba´s ninth win in the tournament against only one loss, as Joahnys Argilagos (49) surprisingly lost 1-2 to Colombian Yuberjen Martinez.
Argilagos had already secured the bronze medal, along with Erislandy Savon (91) in these 31st Olympic Games.
