RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Aug 11 (acn) Cuban boxer Erislandi Savon (91kg) beat Argentine Yamil Peralta, result that earned him the second medal to the Cuban delegation at the 31st Olympic Games, held in this Brazilian city.
Erislandi, nephew of three-time Olympiac champion Felix Savon, won 3-0 (29-28, 29-28, 30-27), to thus advance to the semifinals, stage in which he will face Kazakh Vassiliy Levit.
Russian Evgeny Tishchenko, reigning world monarch, appears as favorite in the other semifinal bout versus Uzbek Rustam Tulaganov, so there could be a re-edition next Monday of the fight for gold medal in the last World Championship of Qatar 2015.
Yesterday, the also Cuban Yoandy Argilagos (49 kg) certified the first medal of the Caribbean delegation when beating by unanimous vote Kenyan Peter Warui.
In addition to Savón and Argilagos, Cuba´s triple world champion Julio Cesar la Cruz (81) defeated 3-0 Turkish Mehmet Nadir Unal, reaching thus the quarterfinal stage.
This Thursday it is scheduled the debut of Cubans Robeisy Ramirez (56) and Ronnier Iglesias (69) against Indian Shiva Thapa and Armenian Vladimir Margaryan respectively.
