Cuban Dominguez draws with Caruana in Dortmund Chess Tournament

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 14 (acn) Cuban Leinier Dominguez reached 2.5 units of possible four in the Dortmund Sparkassen Chess Meeting, in Germany, after signing peace with U.S. Fabiano Caruana.

The website of the organizers envisioned that Leinier (2713 Elo points), with black pieces, drew with the current third player of the world ranking (2810) in 37 moves of a Petrov defense.
This was the third draw of the Caribbean player, who in the third round beat Ukranian Ponomariov and appears second behind French Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (2798), only one with three points and solo leader after defeating the local Rainer Buhmann (2653) in only 35 moves of a Spanish opening, Closed variant.
The other two matches of the day were draws, the first one between Ukrainian Ruslan Ponomariov (2706) and Russian Vladimir Kramnik (2812) in 27 moves of a Queen's Gambit Declined.
Meanwhile, German Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu (2674) and Russian Evgeny Najer (2687) mimicked them in 44 moves of a Queen´s Pawn Opening.
Ponomariov, Kramnik, Caruana and Nisipeanu appear from 3rd to 6th seats with two units, while Najer followed them with 1.5 points and Buchmann (1) is on bottom of the standings.
Today is a resting day for all and on Friday, Vachier will face Najer, Leinier will clash with Nisipeanu, Kramnik will battle with Caruana and Buchmann against Ponomariov.
