HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 11 (acn) Cuba won the silver medal of the U21 NORCECA Men´s Volleyball Continental Championship, based in the Canadian city of Gatineau, when losing to the United States.
With this result, Americans won the gold medal and the only ticket the tournament granted for the 2017 World Cup.
According to the website of the contest, Cubans lost 1-3 (17-25, 27-29, 25-19 and 25-22)
The top scorer of the match was American Kyle Ensing, who amassed 20 points, supported by his team-mates Jordan Ewert (19) and Dylan Missry (11).
The most outstanding Caribbean players were Jose Carlos Romero (19), Miguel Angel Lopez (14) and Miguel David Gutierrez (14).
The stats of the game showed that Americans led in blocking, with positive balance of 11-4, and attack (55-54), the two sides matched in aces (3-3), and Cubans were better in unforced errors (30-29).
Cuba unbeaten topped preliminary group B with three 3-0 wins over Trinidadians (25-15, 25-6, and 25-16), Guatemalans (25-17, 25-17 and 25-10 ) and Canadians (25-17, 25-18, 25-16), respectively.
That performance earned them the direct ticket to the semi-finals stage in which they defeated 3-0 (25-15,25-15 and 25-17) Guatemala.
United States did the same as they also finished undefeated in Pool A, with two 3-0 wins over Barbados (25-15, 25-15 and 25-16), and St. Vincent and the Grenadines (25-11 , 25-12 and 25-10) and swept Canada 3-0 (25-9, 26-24, 25-21) in the semifinals.
The bronze medal went to Canadians, who beat 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-19) Guatemala –fourth seat- while St.Vincent and the Grenadines finished sixth after defeating 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 25-19, 25-21) Trinidad and Tobago -seventh-, while Barbados earned the fifth spot when winning 3-1 (25-17, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18) over St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
