Cuba beats Canada in U21 NORCECA Men´s VolleyballHAVANA, Cuba, Jul 8 (acn) Cuba reached the semifinals of the U21 NORCECA Men´s Volleyball Continental Championship when defeating Canada, on the last day of the preliminary stage of the contest.

According to the website of the tournament, Cubans won 3-0 (25-17, 25-18 and 25-16), in one hour and seven minutes.
The Caribbean Miguel David Gutierrez was the top scorer of the match with 17 points (13 spikes, one blocking and three aces), followed by his team-mates Miguel Angel Romero (12-10-0-2) and Jose Carlos Romero (11-9-0-2).
Sharonel Vernon-Evans (9-8-1-0) and Eric Loeppky (8-7-1-0) highlighted for Canadians.
Cuba was better in the attack (41-28), blocking (6-4), and service (9-0), and both teams tied in unforced errors (19-19).
With these results, Cubans advanced to the semifinals tomorrow as leaders of Group B with three wins without losses, with wins also 3-0 over Trinidad and Tobago (25-15, 25-6 and 25-16) and Guatemala (25-17, 25-17 and 25-10), respectively.
The other team that reached the semifinals was the undefeated United States (2-0) after beating 3-0 (25-11, 25-12 and 25-10) Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The matches Barbados-Guatemala and Canada-St. Vincent and the Grenadines will take place today in the quarterfinal stage.
Canadians (2-1) and Guatemalans (1-2) finished second and third in Group B, while Barbadians (1-1) and St. Vincentians (0-2) finished second and third in Pool A.
