Cuba will play against Canada in Women's Volleyball Pan American Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 7 (acn) Cuba will face Canada on Friday in the quarterfinal stage of the 15th Women's Volleyball Pan American Cup, qualifying tournament for the 2017 Grand Prix that will conclude on Sunday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

According to the website of the event, Cuba advanced to this important stage when beating 3-0 Peru, ending thus second in Group B with balance of three wins and two losses.

Cubans previously defeated Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica and Peru, all with score of 3-0, and lost to the United States and Argentina, 2-3 and 1-3, in that order.

Canadians got their ticket after beating Mexico 3-0 (3-2) and finished third in Pool A.

The other quarter-finals match will be between Argentina (3-2) and Puerto Rico (4-1), third and second seats in Pools B and A, respectively.

Argentina and Puerto Rico advanced despite losing 0-3 to United States and the Dominican Republic, in that order.

With those performances, Americans and Dominicans earned direct tickets to Saturday's semifinals where they will face the winners of quarterfinals.

On the other hand, Peru (3-2), Trinidad and Tobago (1-4) and Costa Rica (0-5), fourth, fifth and sixth in Group B respectively and Colombia (2-3), Venezuela (1-4) and Mexico (0-5), fourth, fifth and sixth of Pool A, will fight for the spots from fifth to 12.

On Wednesday, Trinidad and Tobago and Colombia overcame 3-0 and 3-1 Costa Rica and Venezuela, in that order.
