HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 6 (acn) Cuba lost to Argentina on the fourth and penultimate day of the preliminary phase of the 15th Women's Volleyball Pan American Cup, based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and will face Peru today.
According to the website of the contest that grants six seats for the 2017 Grand Prix, Argentina won 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-23 and 25-15) after an hour and 56 minutes.
The leading scorer of the match was Cuban Heidy Rodriguez, who totaled 18 points; supported by Regla Gracia (16), while Lucia Fresco (13) and Tanya Acosta (10) stood out by the South Americans.
The match stats show that Argentina was better at blocking (11-6), service (9-8) and unforced errors (35-23), while led in attack (43-42).
In yesterday's other matches in Pool B, Peru and the United States won 3-0 over Trinidad and Tobago and Costa Rica, respectively.
Meanwhile, in Group A, Puerto Rico and Colombia beat 3-0 and 3-2 Venezuela and Mexico, in that order.
The preliminary stage concludes today with the matches Mexico-Canada, Venezuela-Colombia, Dominican Republic-Puerto Rico, Cuba-Peru, Trinidad and Tobago-Costa Rica, and Argentina-USA.
Group B is headed by United States with four wins without losses, followed by Cuba (3-1), Peru (3-1), Argentina (2-2), Costa Rica (0-4) and TTO (0-4).
Meanwhile, Pool A is led by Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico (4-0), which are escorted by Canada (2-2), Colombia (1-3), Venezuela (0-4) and Mexico (0-4).
The leaders of each group will advance directly to the semifinal stage, while those finishing second and third will qualify to quarterfinals, to be held next Friday.
After a day of rest, actions will continue with the semifinals and finals on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
